A message from Laurie Lieberman:

The eight years I have served on the School Board have gone by quickly.  I am proud of what I’ve accomplished, but there is still so much more to do.  I am seeking re-election because I want to bring to fruition Districtwide projects that are in the beginning stages, and also usher in new ones.

Our schools continue to do important work preparing students for college and careers in the 21st century, ensuring that our students graduate with the ability to think critically, to work with others and to be responsible citizens who appreciate and respect others and are ready to participate in a democracy.  I am proud of the substantial progress we are making with our youngest learners and in tackling the opportunity/achievement gap. We have implemented social justice standards from pre-K through 12th grade., continued to grow our music and arts programs, and are modernizing our facilities to ensure that our students are safe and have access to state-of-the-art technology.

And that only scratches the surface.

My commitment to educational excellence and equity requires continued system building and innovative, thoughtful, vigilant, and inclusive partnership-building   A few of my additional goals for my next term include:  implementing global language opportunities beginning in elementary school, overseeing the development of career technical pathways; and furthering the use of inquiry-based learning across grade levels.

Over the next four years, I look forward to continuing to work with the entire Santa Monica-Malibu community to achieve our shared goals.
